From across the state and nation, nearly 800 leaders and practitioners gathered to learn, share, and network with one another, engaging in a wide array of activities that addressed the 2018 Forum’s core priorities: Embracing Change to Catalyze Innovation, Uplifting Underrepresented Voices, and Taking a Whole Systems Approach. The Forum served as a launchpad for sharing findings from California’s Fourth Climate Change Assessment and featured a robust program, delivered by over 280 speakers and through 80 distinct sessions and activities. Participants shared that the Forum was “rich with information and right on point” and that “the focus on environmental justice and frontline communities (being weaved into the entire event rather seamlessly) was very welcome and necessary,” with 95% of survey respondents rating their overall experience as “Good” or Excellent.”
I thought the program was great – good diversity of topics, great speakers. Just as importantly, I think the sessions largely delivered on what they said they would cover. I also thought the conference did a great job of integrating the equity issue in a way that didn’t feel repetitive between sessions.

I enjoyed the plenary panels, great topics hosted by an informed moderator, with panelists who had a wide range of expertise and communicated their experiences well. Also, the focus on environmental justice and frontline communities (being weaved into the entire event rather seamlessly) was very welcome and necessary.

Every session I went to felt entirely worth the time and effort to be there. I greatly appreciated the focus on equity and diverse leadership and community-driven solutions. I also appreciated the substantive talks on moving from planning to implementation.

I enjoyed the variation of leaders that spoke about their different methods. It is refreshing to hear from areas and people who are often considered to be against the idea of climate change come back with helpful solutions and practices.

This was an excellent chance to think outside of my environmental sector and better recognize that there are many sectors (transportation, housing, etc.) facing similar issues and that we will need to work together collaboratively and learn from each other to implement climate adaptation that best serves Californians.

I thought the forum was great. Everyone I met was positive and encouraging. At no time, did I feel that things were hopeless, but the opposite, it gave me hope to see so many knowledgable, interested and passionate people. The networking was invaluable.
